METROWERKS RELEASES CODEWARRIOR DEVELOPMENT TOOLS FOR
THE BEBOX
AUSTIN, Texas-April 17, 1996-Metrowerks today announced
the release of CodeWarrior for BeBox, the Be-native version
of its award winning Integrated Development Environment
(IDE). Developer Release One (DR1) of CodeWarrior for BeBox
will be available starting April 22, at an introductory
price of $149.
Last October, Metrowerks and Be, Inc. of Menlo Park,
California announced that the two companies would
collaborate in bringing the CodeWarrior environment to the
Be Operating System (Be OS), a new multiprocessing,
multithreaded operating system, ideal for media and
communications-intensive applications. The Be OS is the
heart of the BeBox personal computer, which makes use of
multiple PowerPC microprocessors to simultaneously handle
multiple audio sources (including digital audio, analog
audio, and MIDI), multiple video sources, and communication
with multiple Internet web sites-while at the same time
handling capabilities such as file and database management,
3D computation and other functions.
"When we started late last year, we had great hopes for
our relationship with Metrowerks. We're very happy to see
the fruits of this relationship - the release of the
Be-native release of the premiere C++ IDE, coincident with
the new DR7 release of the Be OS," said Jean-Louis
Gassée, president and chief executive officer of Be,
Inc. "CodeWarrior for BeBox will please both existing and
future Be developers."
Along with Macintosh and Windows, BeBox with the Be OS
becomes the third announced host platform for CodeWarrior.
The intuitive GUI-based CodeWarrior IDE has earned
Metrowerks multiple awards, and won the loyalty of
programmers all over the world. CodeWarrior is designed
modularly, using a "front-end, back-end" architecture which
allows Metrowerks to continuously add improved compilers,
linkers and other tools, while maintaining a consistent
environment for the programmer. This has enabled Metrowerks'
well-accepted, three-times-a-year release schedule for
CodeWarrior.
CodeWarrior for BeBox is written directly to the native
Be OS application programming interface (API) and
application framework. The IDE is multithreaded and enables
concurrent compilation, which takes advantage of the
multiple processors found in the BeBox to speed application
building.
CodeWarrior for BeBox is a stand-alone product and will
be available from Metrowerks on April 22, 1996. DR1 will
include the Be-enabled CodeWarrior IDE, C and C++ compilers,
linkers, sample code and classes, and online documentation.
It will also include a source code cross-debugger which can
be hosted on a network connected Macintosh.
DR1 features an introductory price of $149. Developers
who purchase the DR1 release will also receive an extended
set of updates, including all releases through CodeWarrior
for BeBox 5. DR1 can be ordered directly from Metrowerks by
calling 800-377-5416, or by sending e-mail to
sales@metrowerks.com.
CodeWarrior for BeBox DR2 is scheduled for release in
July, and will include the first release of the native Be OS
source debugger among other features. DR2 will also feature
the same low introductory price of $149, and will include
updates to release DR3 through DR5.
DR3 is scheduled for release in October 1996, and will
start the regular, three-releases-per-year update schedule
common to all CodeWarrior professional tool products.
CodeWarrior for BeBox will be updated on a
October-February-June schedule from DR3 forward. DR3 will
offered at a suggested retail price of $299.
