Progress Report from the BeOS® Version of Opera
KJELLER, Norway | CAPE TOWN, South Africa - November 9, 1998 -- The BeOS
version of Opera is making excellent progress. This is particularly
encouraging as it was the last of the Operating Systems tackled under
"Project Magic," Opera Software's initiative to port its popular
Windows-based Web Browser to other platforms.
Forms, keyboard navigation, scaling of text and images, handling of FTP
URLs, transparent GIFs and image dithering are among the many features
already implemented. A first screenshot has already been published,
too!
"The BeOS port is great news", concludes Helmar Rudolph, Project Magic's
initiator and co-ordinator, "and the support we are getting from Be, Inc.
is simply outstanding. A customer once said that 'BeOS and Opera is a
match made in heaven.', and if the co-operation and the progress made so
far are anything to go by, this will be a great boost for both companies
and a superb product for the market."
A release date hasn't yet been set, but first open betas may be expected
around Q2 1999 .
The BeOS will be shown at Comdex Fall in Las Vegas, November 16 through
20 in Be, Incorporated's booth (S7114).
