Hutchings Software Hutchings Software Anncounces Caterpillar Component Library for BeOS
Danville, CA (November 11, 1998): Hutchings Software today announced their
"Caterpillar" HS Component Library for Be®, Inc.'s Be Operating System
(BeOS®). A Caterpillar Software Developers Kit (SDK) for developers is
available December, 1998.
Using applications developed with Caterpillar technology users can mix and
match media with consistent human interface for arranging and embedding
media viewers, drag and drop linking with live updating - ("not your
father's publish and subscribe"), simultaneously edit the same data with
tools from different vendors! (No need to close a document in one
application and open it in another to switch editing tools.)
Caterpillar's "intrinsic content editing" allows users to edit embedded
content in separate windows with tools of their choice. "Context sensitive
editing" makes menus and palettes available based on the kind of media
being edited. Caterpillar's multi-window documents let users save how
they work along with what they're working on.
Founder Brad Hutchings said, "The BeOS is fresh, modern, buzzword
compliant, and a lot of fun for software developers. It's support for
add-ons and multi-threading have made Caterpillar easily explandable and
very crisp. I'm confident and hopeful that the BeOS will continue to gain
momentum in the marketplace. Porting Caterpillar to a legacy OS would be a
nightmare."
