Be, Incorporated Announces OEM Partnership with Fujitsu Computers
HANNOVER, Germany, March 18, 1999 -Be, Incorporated, developers of the Be Operating System (BeOS®), today announced an OEM agreement with Fujitsu Computers in Europe. Under the agreement, Fujitsu Computers will pre-install the BeOS on its new Pentium III-supported Silverline personal computers, which are scheduled to ship in May in Europe. The BeOS is an operating system designed for digital content creators who want to manipulate high bandwidth digital media, such as graphics, audio, and video, in real time on personal computer hardware. The alternative operating system delivers breakthrough computing power to prosumers who are doing a variety of multimedia work from creating animated 3D models and mixing digital audio tracks to editing the latest digital video masterpiece. Fujitsu Computers' new Silverline multimedia PCs have been designed to offer greater performance in the areas of sound, video, graphics and image processing. The BeOS will be pre-installed on several Silverline systems, including the Silverline PIII 500 Mhz, the Silverline 2XPIII 450 Mhz, and the Silverline 2XPIII 500 Mhz. A dual boot option allowing the user to choose between BeOS or another operating system will be installed. Silverline systems will be sold in Europe only. "Fujitsu Computers is excited to be partnering with Be, Incorporated to deliver the highest performance PC multimedia experience on the market," said Frank Arnold, vice president of product supply, Europe for Fujitsu Computers. "The BeOS has emerged as a powerful media operating system that is the perfect complement to the Silverline's hardware strengths." "Joining forces with a market leader such as Fujitsu Computers promises to be instrumental for Be in solidifying its foothold in the European market," said Jean Calmon, vice president of European operations at Be, Incorporated "Fujitsu's decision to pre-install the BeOS on its Silverline systems further validates that European consumers want a choice in operating systems, particularly in the area of multimedia, where legacy operating systems fall short. The end result of this agreement will be a huge win for users in terms of graphics, audio and video performance on the desktop." The BeOS and supporting applications running on the Silverline PCs will be demonstrated at the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany from March 18-24 in the following booths: Fujitsu Computer (Hall1/Stand G-58); Intel Corp.
