Be, Incorporated Announces ISDN Support in the BeOS

HANNOVER, Germany, March 18, 1999 -Be, Incorporated announces ISDN support for the Be operating system (BeOS®) via Common-ISDN-API (CAPI 2.0). The BeOS is designed for digital content creators who want to manipulate high bandwidth digital media, such as graphics, audio, and video, in real time on personal computers. The BeOS delivers breakthrough computing power to users who want to create and produce dynamic media - animated 3D models, digital audio mixes, and digital video masterpieces.

CAPI simplifies access to ISDN adapters at the application level, and allows unrestricted use of their functions through a standardized software interface. It provides an abstraction of ISDN services that is independant from the underlying network and from the adapters used to connect to the network. Thanks to CAPI, interface to the ISDN service is easier for all services such as data, voice, fax, video, telephony, etc. For more information, see http://www.capi.org/

"ISDN has gained a lot of popularity in Europe." Said Christophe Droulers,Director of Developer Services, Be Europe. "Being part of the CAPI organization will prove to our customers that we are committed in bringing them the technology they need. Thanks to the work of the team from BeISDN, and with the support of AVM, we will include access to ISDN controllers in the BeOS soon."

"AVM's active B1 family is an open platform for new operating systems like BeOS." Said Andreas Ziessnitz, Product Manager, AVM. "The binary compatible architecture of our B1-Controllers makes it easy to develop OS-related drivers on any platform. We think BeOS, the 'Media OS', can greatly benefit from the design of active controllers such as the B1 and the corresponding CAPI2.0-Interface. ISDN, with it's 'built in' powerful multimedia capability is an ideal medium for an OS like the Be Operating System. "

AVM is the leading manufacturer of ISDN adapters and application software for personal computers.

The B1 family cards, best-selling active ISDN controllers worldwide, feature not only all current PC bus systems (ISA, EISA, PCMCIA, PCI and USB), but also support for all popular operating systems and international protocols, including CAPI 2.0. For more information, see http://www.avm.de/
