Be, Incorporated Licenses Canopus Corporation's Digital Video Technology

MENLO PARK, Calif., April 19, 1999 - Be, Incorporated announced today that it has licensed Canopus Corporation's high-performance software DV codec for use on the BeOS®. The Canopus software DV codec is capable of high speed decoding and encoding of DV format video without the use of additional hardware.

Canopus also announced that it will write drivers for its DVRaptor to be compatible with the BeOS in future product releases.

"The addition of Canopus' outstanding DV codec to the BeOS will enable our users to edit high quality video from a variety of DV-format camcorders," said Tim Self, vice president of developer relations at Be, Incorporated. "This software-only solution will also help to lower the cost of entry for DV editing, something we are sure users will appreciate."

"The BeOS is an ideal platform for DV editing," said Hiro Yamada, president of Canopus. "With Canopus DV technology, BeOS users will be able to edit digital video at higher quality and lower cost than ever before."

The Canopus DVRaptor will allow BeOS users to easily capture digital video and still images from digital video camcorders directly to their hard disks. Users will be able to capture, edit, and output video without any loss in quality. Video can also be monitored and previewed simultaneously on the video and computer monitor in real-time while it is being captured or recorded.
