My NE2000 compatible doesn't work

Situation:

The message "interface 0 not initialized" comes up at boot or when restarting networking.

You don't get the above message but you can't ping anything but your own computer and nobody can ping this computer.

This happens most on cards that are set to "software configured" or "PNP configured". These configurations are not supported, but occasionally work anyway. The only way these cards work is if they are supported by us right now is set to a fixed resource setting, preferably with jumpers. Luckily, many of these cards can be set to a jumper configured setting.

Things to try:

  1. Dig the manual out of the closet.
  2. Find the jumper settings.
  3. Set the card to IRQ 5, port 300 (a very tame setting, as long as the sound card isn't using IRQ 5).

If you're going to try a software or Plug and Play configured card, be sure to set it to these settings, turn off Plug and Play OS in your BIOS afterward, and then try the BeOS again.

If you still can't get the card working, send us the following on the support form:

    • Resources the card is using now.
    • Make and model number of the card.
    • Whether you use Plug and Play (My Computer etc.) or a custom utility to configure the card.
