My mouse doesn't work

Situation:

A serial mouse is not being detected on serial 2.

A serial mouse is not being detected on serial 2, but is on serial 1.

A PS/2 mouse is not being detected on the PS/2 mouse port.

Missing mice can come from three things we have identified, and others we haven't. BIOS settings, improper serial communication, advanced mice, and missing PS/2 ports.

Things to try:

    1. Make sure that Plug-and-Play OS is disabled in your BIOS, as well as any power management and USB support. These can interfere with the serial ports, leaving the BeOS without any serial access. Also, check the motherboard manufacturer's web page for any BIOS upgrades as this has helped in the past.

    2. Does your motherboard have a PS/2 connection (as opposed to a card or I/O board port)? If it does not, there may be problems with the BeOS not recognizing the PS/2 port is missing. We are investigating this currently, see the Information we're collecting section.

    3. Sometimes it is the BeOS not dealing correctly with an advanced mouse. Many OEM mice work well, as well as most Logitech mice. Many mice with "advanced features" (extra buttons, scrolling wheels, programmable features) do not work with the BeOS. In general the cheaper the mouse, the more likely it is to work with the BeOS.

    4. Try the mouse on Serial 1.

Information we're collecting:

Please go to the support form and beyond what's on the form, please do a serial debug and send it in so we can try to figure out what's going on under the hood. To obtain serial debugging information from an Intel machine, do the following:
    1. Hook up a null modem cable from the serial 1 port on the Intel machine to any serial port on another computer.
    2. Using any terminal program (Z-Term, HyperTerminal, or other) on the non-Be machine, set the rate to 19,200, handshaking off, 8:1 with no parity, no error correction.
    3. Hold down F1 on the BeIntel machine as soon as you see "Starting the BeOS Boot Sequence" to capture the debugging information.

THIS MAY FAIL because of the possibility of the BeOS not dealing with your serial ports correctly at all. If so, do as much as you can and contact custsupport for more ideas.

Please please please be sure to fill out all fields on the support form. Missing fields that seem unrelated mean we have to write back and find out before we can start looking at the issue.
