Be Announces Next Generation Internet-Enabled Audio-in-the-Home on Intel Platforms

Demo 2000 Conference, Indian Wells, Calif. - February 7, 2000 - Be Incorporated (Nasdaq: BEOS) today announced the availability of products for next generation Internet-enabled consumer audio appliances based on Intel Architecture. Be worked with Intel to optimize BeIA, Be's software platform for Internet appliances, on Intel's Celeron( processor. The goal of Be's efforts is to provide a reference platform for manufacturers wishing to build low-cost, high-performance home audio devices. This platform will enable the creation of audio appliances that offer a compelling set of features, including:

Managing a wealth of audio content, obtained both from local sources (such as compact discs) and from the Internet Converting audio CDs into a variety of standard formats for storage and playback, including MP3 Playing audio streamed from the Internet in real time using popular industry technologies, such as RealNetworks' RealSystem G2 Sending multiple streams of audio to a variety of locations in the home Support for home networking products. For example, a single device could simultaneously broadcast a program streamed from the Internet to one room while sending MP3 audio to an Internet-enabled PC for enjoyment in another room

BeIA is Be's software solution designed for the creation of appliances that deliver information and entertainment over the web. Based on BeOS, BeIA is fully customizable and supports popular streaming audio and video standards. Intel's hardware platform is based on the Intel Celeron processor and the Intel 810 chipset. This highly integrated chipset offers innovative features with compelling performance while lowering overall system costs through smart integration. The 810 chipset enables the creation of legacy-free Internet appliances, featuring technologies such as Universal Serial Bus (USB) to connect peripherals.

Be anticipates that this reference platform for home audio appliances will be the first in a series for home entertainment and consumer media applications based on current and future Intel Architecture platforms.
