AST's first BeOS-equipped PC will be a desktop computer, featuring up to two 550 Mhz Intel Pentium® III processors, offering customers more than a gigahertz of processing power. The machines come with both BeOS and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 pre-installed. The Be boot loader, also pre-installed, allows users to easily switch between operating systems at startup time. AST's Be based PC offers seven expansion slots, up to 2 GB of memory, and up to 6 Ultra SCSI hard drives - including high performance 18 GB, 10,000 rpm units. The price for these PCs begins at $1,999. AST's Be Based PCs will be shipped with a full version of GobeProductive, from Gobe Software, an integrated productivity tool and one of the most popular applications for BeOS. Gobe Productive includes word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, charting, image processing and presentation capabilities. "By desigining specific platforms for BeOS, AST is able to deliver value-priced computers that address the demand for rich media content by users and developers.
