Wildcard Design to Launch Activision's Civilization: Call To Power for
the Be Operating System
NEW YORK, NY, June 22, 1999 - Wildcard Design, Incorporated today announced
it has signed an agreement with Activision, Inc. to develop and market a
BeOS® version of the strategy game, Civilization: Call To Power.
Wildcard Design plans to launch the BeOS version of the game in the summer
of 1999. Civilization: Call To Power will be on of the first in a
new line of commercially available games for the Be Operating System
(BeOS®).
The Civilization series has sold more than 2.5 million games worldwide
since the release of the first Civilization title in 1991. Civilization:
Call to Power will offer unique and exciting features including:
- develop empires over 7000 years, from 4000 BC to 3000 AD
- amazing variety of units, buildings, wonders, governments, and research
options
- fight wars on the battlefield, or by using unconventional types of
warfare
- adapt your own strategy, from peaceful to violent, straight-forward to
devious
- every progress or decline in an empire can be traced back to past
decisions
- micro or macro manage your civilization, or anything in
between!
The agreement with Activision states that Wildcard Design will be
porting the game from the original source code so that the graphics,
action, and user interface are identical to the PC version. All of the new
tools, options, combat, and graphics featured in the PC game will also be
included in the BeOS version. It will be based on the identical story line
and characters, challenging players to create a civilization of their own
making through the 7,000 years from primitive history to 3000 AD.
"With the incredible amount of audio and video media in the game, it's
no surprise that Civilization: Call To Power is being brought to
BeOS," said Philippe Erwin, Director of Licensing and Business Development
at Activision, Inc. "BeOS is designed to work well with all forms of media,
and we are sure this will be no exception. Having creative, strategic games
available on their platform of choice will enhance the experience for BeOS
users."
"We are pleased to show our increased support for BeOS as a gaming
platform," said John Fehr, chief executive officer of Wildcard Design,
Incorporated. "We've been with BeOS through its formative years, and
we believe it has become a superior gaming platform as a result of Be's
push towards a media-rich operating system. We are pleased to offer the
BeOS community a superior strategy game."
"Activision is one of the game industry's most respected companies,
and Civilization one of its most enduring designs," said Frank
Boosman, vice president of business development at Be. "It's truly a
pleasure to see them coming over to BeOS. With the technical expertise of
Wildcard Design, I'm sure BeOS users will be enjoying Civilization: Call
to Power."
Wildcard Design plans to ship the BeOS version of Civilization: Call
to Power during the summer. It will distribute the BeOS version through
retail outlets and over the Internet with pricing similar to the PC
version. Wildcard Design, Incorporated will be working with game developers
and publishers to bring their best selling games to BeOS.
