Be Incorporated Will Demonstrate BeOS Applications at ECTS
Applications Include Audio, Games, Video and Internet Appliances

LONDON, September 1, 1999 - Be Incorporated (Nasdaq: BEOS), developer of BeOS®, the operating system designed for digital media applications and Internet appliances, today announced that it will demonstrate multiple applications for BeOS at the ECTS '99 Conference September 5-7, 1999 at Olympia Exhibition Centre in London. Audio, games and video applications as well as Internet appliances pre-installed with BeOS will be demonstrated at the booth (# N190).

"We are very excited about the myriad of applications being developed for BeOS," said Jean Calmon, vice president and general manager, Europe at Be, Inc. "The multitude of applications including audio, video and games really show-off the digital media capabilities of the BeOS architecture. Also, BeOS' modular design was built as an Internet-native system with core operating system services that specifically handle digital media in a way that is ideally suited for the Internet appliances market. The coming months promise to be exciting for both Be and consumers as these applications come to market."

New applications being demonstrated by Be, Inc. at the show include:

  • Games: The latest games for BeOS will be presented, including Quake II and Quake III Arena, running in Voodoo hardware accelerated openGL mode, Civilization: Call to Power, and Corum 3.
  • Video: Blender -NaN-(www.blender.nl) is a fully equipped freeware 3D graphics suite with an innovative 3D interface designed by animators for modeling, rendering and post-production. Latest developments include Game-Blender, providing interactive 3D game prototyping and playback.
  • Audio: IK Multimedia's T-RackS (www.t-racks.com) is a complete mastering suite for audio professionals featuring real-time preview and processing, a state-of-the-art six bank Parametric EQ, multi-band master stereo limiter, 32-bit floating point resolution and physical modeling tube emulation. Features include the V-Mix real-time random remix engine, a large collection of sample loops, standard audio file imports, single or multi-track exports and a virtual synthesiser arpeggiator.
  • Internet Appliances: BeOS has been pre-installed on Microworkz' new line of Information Access Devices to enable Microworkz to take full advantage of the digital media-handling features of BeOS to create non-PC devices that are marketed primarily for access to the Internet. Other functions include email, ecommerce, word processing and games.

Be will also be demonstrating BeOS on the Internet Personal Access Device 'IPAD' which provides simple consumer Web access through a customizable interface. The 'IPAD' with BeOS will include features for audio and video streaming, enable low cost development and deployment, and will be e-commerce and broadband-enabled.
