Issue #20      March 23, 2001      The Golden Lasso of Truth

What's New

Elegant Media has published the first "snapshot" version of their impressive Titan project and are charging a "symbolic" fee of $5 to gauge interest in the project. Titan 0.1 Alpha is a pre-release version of Elegant Media's digital media editing system. It allows you to edit, record, arrange, capture, render, and otherwise produce digital media (audio and/or video). You can manipulate clips in several ways, such as moving them, resizing them and splitting them. Projects can be saved and loaded. Since this is only a snapshot, they can't give any promises on the functionality or stability of the application. However, they think it's well worth the five bucks spent, and I'd have to agree.

The Hidden Question

The last hidden question was, "On Wednesday, March 7, 2001, space officials set March 20, 2001 as the date for dumping this space station into the Pacific Ocean." The correct answer is Mir. About 100 people answered correctly, and here are the fortunate five who won glamorous yet durable Be T-shirts:

Daniel Willson -- Alabama
Jaq Andrews -- New Hampshire
Harry Mushlit -- Minnesota
Matthew Martz -- Maryland
Irvin Jacobson -- Israel

The Hidden Question Rules: Somewhere in the newsletter there will be a hidden trivia question. If you've registered your copy of BeOS 5, send an e-mail to hidden@be.com with the correct answer (and your name and address, please) and you will be entered into a drawing to win some nifty BeOS swag. PLUS your name will be announced in the next newsletter as one of the Big Winners.

That is all.

FAQs Galore

If you've been using Be's Bug Database, you may be interested to know that the database has its own FAQ.

This thick book, first published in 1955 as a promotion for a beer company, has expanded into television shows and a Web site and is now being offered for sale by its owner, the food and drink conglomerate Diageo PLC.

Check it Out

Rapture in Venice has released version 1.0 of Morphy Chess, a networked chess client for BeOS. It's great fun to play, and worth checking out. Warning: You do have to e-mail him to get a username and password on the server first, as new account functionality is not in the app yet.
