BeOS Branding FAQ

Welcome to the BeOS logo program. By becoming a member of the BeOS team, you are leveraging 10 years of experience Be has had in developing the BeOS software.
The BeOS logo is for publishers of BeOS or BeOS-compatible
products. If you fall in that category, and want to use the BeOS logo,
please complete the
BeOS Logo Licensing Form and you will be provided a link to the eps
file. By completing that form you agree to adhere to the BeOS Logo
Guidelines below.
Logo
The logo consists of the "Be" and "OS" contained in a shape.
Trademark
The BeOS logo must always be accompanied by the registered symbol (®). You may need to adjust the size of the symbols based on the application, to make sure the symbols are legible but not obtrusive.
Logo Color
It is preferred that the logo be shown in 2-color, where the "Be" is Blue and the "OS" is Red. Use a 1-color version only if necessary. If a 1-color logo is required, use BeOS Blue or black (100% on the left side and 60% on the right side). Always choose a line screen for the 60% screen that is as fine as your medium will support.
BeOS Red is a specific color mix:
Spot color = Pantone 186
Process color = C:0 M:100 Y:100 K:3
Screen color = R:255 G:0 B:51
Hexadecimal value = FF0033
BeOS Blue is a specific color mix:
Spot color = Pantone 286
Process color = C:100 M:60 Y:0 K:0
Screen color = R:0 G:102 B:255
Hexadecimal value = 0066FF
Background Color
For contrast, it is preferred that the logo be printed on a white or light-colored background (colors that equal approximately a 30% gray value). If the logo must be placed on a dark background, the registered mark must reverse from the background to white. Regardless of the background color, the BeOS letterforms must always be white.
Clear Space
Keep the logo area clear of distracting elements, e.g., type, photographs, illustration, dark or textured background. The required clear space around the logo, based on the height of the "e" in the Be logotype, is shown. When positioning the logo at the outer edge of a format, observe the same clear space rule. (The logo should be a distance away from the edge equal to or greater than the clear space measurement.)
Placement with Partner Logos
When the logo appears with the host partner, the BeOS logo should not be equal in size but smaller -- no larger than 70% of the host. If the BeOS logo is shown with other partner logos (other than the host partner), it should have equal prominence.
Minimum Size
For clarity and legibility, the height of the logo should never be less than 1/2 inch (12 mm or 34 pixels). The BeOS logo should be larger than the publisher’s logo. The product name (example: BeOS Pro Edition 5.0) should be about 20% of the principal display panel.
Don'ts
Consistent use of the BeOS logo emphasizes brand awareness. Do not alter the logo in any way. The BeOS logo should not be rotated, skewed, re-proportioned, redrawn, or distorted in any way. Do not use the "Be" (Janson) and "OS" (Futura) fonts elsewhere in the design.
Packaging Placement
The preferred placement of the BeOS logo is on the lower-left corner of the package on the front panel. The alternative placement is on the top-right of the front panel. The placement of the BeOS logo on the spine may be used as supplemental branding. For clarity and legibility, the height of the logo should never be less than 1/2 inch (12 mm) on packaging, and should always be subordinate to the host partner logo -- no larger than 70% of the host.
Special Materials
There are some applications that will require the BeOS logo to be produced on special materials. The BeOS logo may appear in gold or silver metallic; however, do not mix different metallic colors together. It may be blind-embossed or debossed, embroidered on fabric, or etched into glass, plastic, or metal.
Credit Line
Printed materials referring to the Be Brand or Be technology must credit ownership to Be. Set the credit line in small type and place at the back or bottom of printed materials. The following credit line should be used: The BeOS logo is a trademark of Be Incorporated.
