The following are guidelines to ensure proper use of the Be trademark, signature/logo, and product name. If you have any additional questions or concerns that this section does not address, please send an email to: beoslogo@be.com.
Trademark
The Be Incorporated® wordmark, the Be eye/ear logo, the BeOS™ logo, and the Be tagline "in your sensesTM" are valuable assets of Be Incorporated.
Be Incorporated develops, markets, supports, and provides development services for BeOS, an advanced software operating system designed for Internet appliances and digital media applications. Be has made a strategic decision to license use of the BeOS logo to OEMs, professional users, and enthusiasts who develop applications and digital content such as audio, video, animation, and images, on the BeOS architecture.
As a participant in the BeOS logo program, it is your responsibility to assist us in protecting the mark through consistent and proper usage. Participants in the BeOS logo program are required to use the correct trademark symbols on customer promotions, packaging, documents, and electronic postings, whether they are internal or external communications.
The Be Incorporated wordmark, the Be eye/ear logo, the BeOS logo, and the Be tagline are global marks. Therefore, all international communications should follow these trademark guidelines. The trademark symbol (TM) is an internationally recognized trademark designation.
Trademark Symbol in Copy
When you refer to Be Incorporated or the Be products (BeIA™ platform and BeOS™ product) in copy, the appropriate trademark symbols, (®) and (TM), must appear with the first and most prominent usage of the mark, e.g., the headline and first use in body copy. The appropriate trademark symbol (Be Incorporated®, BeIA™, BeOS™) should accompany the first reference to Be Incorporated products in any bound and printed item. When used on Websites, it should accompany the first brand reference on each web page. In presentations, the trademark symbol may appear on the first slide that uses the Be Incorporated brand name in text.
Setting the Trademark Symbol in Text
The trademark symbol should be set in superscript whenever possible. Subscript may be used as an alternative. If superscript or subscript modes are not available, use parentheses (TM).
Setting Be Incorporated in Text
Do not join the brand name to other words or symbols with a hyphen or as one word. Do not place the Be eye/ear logo or the BeOS logo into body copy; always spell out the name of the brand in the same typeface as the rest of the copy. When referring to Be or Be Incorporated in body copy, it should always be used in mixed case. When Be or Be Incorporated is used as part of a headline or other textual element, all upper case may be used. All lower-case is never permitted. If you want to show the logo, do so as a separate exhibit.
Using the Brand Name in Copy
Always use the word Be as an adjective accompanied by an appropriate noun. Here are some examples:
• BeIA™ platform offers you . . .
• Our BeOS™ product is . . .
Exception: The only exception to this rule is when referring to Be as the name of the company, or with the appearance of the name and/or logo on signage.
Dos and Don'ts
- Never make a play on the name of the company by using it as a capitalized verb, e.g., This can Be a solution to your Internet needs.
- Do not make the BeIA or BeOS wordmarks possessive. Be, the name of the company, is the only mark which can be used as a possessive, e.g., It is Be's vision to . . .
Credit Line
Properly footnote and attribute the Be Incorporated mark, the Be eye/ear logo, and the BeOS logo to Be Incorporated: "The Be signature is a trademark of Be Incorporated."
