1. What does the Be signature signify?
The Be signature demonstrates that the product represented runs on the BeIA platform and has been certified by Be.
2. Who can use the Be signature?
Companies with whom Be has a contractual relationship and are building end-user products based on the BeIA platform.
3. What advantages do we gain by using the Be signature?
Be Partners will gain increased awareness and recognition of their own products and computer environments by leveraging the 10 years of experience Be has had in developing the BeOS software. Participating partners will have access to co-marketing programs and other exciting marketing efforts.
4. If I develop Internet appliances based on the BeIA platform, am I obligated to use the Be signature on my products?
Yes, refer to BeIA Licensing Contract for more details.
5. What is the difference between the BeOS logo and the Be signature?
The BeOS logo is for use only by companies publishing BeOS and BeOS compatible products. The Be signature is reserved as the corporate logo as well as for use by partners who meet Be’s qualification criteria in the Internet appliance category.
6. Can the partners also use both the BeOS logo and the Be signature?
Yes, however both logos may not be used in the same application.
7. If a partner does not qualify for use of the Be signature, can they still use the Be name?
You do not need any special trademark license or legal permission to use the Be name. Your only obligation is to use the trademark symbol at the end of the name, use the name with the appropriate generic descriptor (Be platform), and attribute the trademark with the phrase, "Be is a trademark of Be Incorporated."
8. Is the Be signature the same throughout the world?
Yes. The Be signature appears in the same way and retains the same meaning worldwide -- that this product has been qualified as a Be approved Internet appliance.
9. Can partners who develop middleware for Be based Internet appliances qualify for use of the logo?
No. The logo is reserved for the appliance makers with products that have been certified by Be. However, these partners may be featured on the Be Website under BeIA partners program and may note their relationship with Be by the designation on their own materials: xyz is a BeIA program partner.
10. I have developed an Internet application/service for one of my customers which supports their Internet appliance (possibly a service provider). Can I use the Be signature in connection with it?
Not at the present. Initially, the Be signature is reserved for companies who have contractual relations with Be and whose products are certified by Be.
11. Can one of my partners use the Be signature to brand their Internet appliance?
Certified Be partners will have a pass-through license which enables their ISPs/Affinity partners to use the Be signature in marketing their products.
